NOTE: Make 4-stitch popcorns in this pattern (5-stitch popcorns may be too bulky)
ROW 1 (POPCORN CENTER)
Ch 5, sl st in the first ch to form a ring (or work into magic ring). *1 pop, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2* 4
times in the ring (4 pop, 4 dc, 8 ch sp)
ROW 2 (2ND POPCORN ROW)
Start in any ch sp, *[1 pop, ch 2, 1 pop] in ch sp, ch 2, skip 1 st*
(16 pop, 16 ch sp)
ROW 3 (RING AROUND CENTER)
Sl st into ch sp, *2 sc in ch sp, 1 fpsc around pop** Continue around.
ROW 4 (BASE FOR PETALS)
You'll be working 6 'stems' that you'll then turn into petals. You want these 6 stems to be evenly spaced, so you may need to adjust the spacing noted below.
Join yarn. Ch 6, then work 5 sc down this chain. Secure with slip stitch at base of chain. Then work 6 sc and make next ch 6 (you want to work 6 stems so adjust spacing as needed).
ROW 5 (PETALS)
In sc between the 'stems', join yarn with sc. Now you'll form the stitches up the stems. *2 tr in same st, 1 tr, 2 dc in same st, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc. This should bring you to top of stem. Now work 2 hdc, make 2-st picot, and 1 or 2 hdc in same st. Then work back down - 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 2 dc in same st, 2 tr in same st, 1 tr.
NOTE: You don't have to be super exact with these stitches, adjust as needed to make the petal look good and not too crowded.
When done working down petal, work 1 sc in between the petals to secure, and continue making your petals.
