START

Ch 3; do NOT join.

ROW 1 (CENTER)

In first chain (serves as ring), work 9 dcs in ring. (10 dcs). Join with sl st.

Change color.

ROW 2 (RING AROUND CENTER)

Ch 1 and sc into same st, then 2 sc into each dc around (20 sc). Sl st into ch 1. Join new color.

ROW 3 (CENTER FLOWER)

WORK IN FRONT LOOPS ONLY of row 2 stitches. (You'll be working in back loops for Row 4).

*Ch 7, skip one st, sl st into next ch (forms a small picot at the top of petal), sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc into remaining ch.

On the circle, skip one st and sl st into next sc** (this completes your first petal). Repeat * to ** 9 more times, ending with a slip st into base of initial ch 7 (10 petals).

Don't worry if you only have 9 petals instead of 10. As long as the petals look good, that's fine.

Change color.

ROW 4 (FOUNDATION FOR OUTER PETALS)

Pull petals to front and WORK IN BACK LOOPS from Row 2. Work *3 sc, ch 2 and skip 1 sc**. Continue to work around. Join.

Do NOT change color.

ROW 5 (OUTER PETAL ROW 1)

To start, slip st into next ch 2 space.

In ch2 space, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 2dc, ch 2, *3 dc cluster (see special stitch above), ch 2**. Move to next ch 2 space and repeat * to ** 6 more times (8 clusters). Join with sl st to top of starting ch 3.

Attach new color in any ch-2 space.

ROW 6 (OUTER PETAL ROW 2)

In the ch-2 space between the 3 dc cluster, [ch 3, 2dc, ch 2, 3 dc cluster]. *In next space work [3dc cluster, ch 2, 3 dc cluster]**, repeat * to ** 6 more times. Join with sl st to top of starting ch 3.

ROW 6 (OUTER PETAL ROW 2)

You'll be working only in the ch-2 spaces, not in any of the dc clusters.

In the ch 2 space, work [ch3, 5 dc, ch 3, sl st to 1st ch (picot formed), 6 dc], sl st in next ch-2 space, move to next ch-2 space. *Work [6dc, ch 3, sl st to 1st ch (picot formed), 6 dc], sl st in next ch-2 space**, repeat * to ** 6 more times. Join with sl st to top of starting ch 3.

Fasten off.

Finish.
