• Very easy pattern but uses a fair amount of yarn
• Easy to make smaller/bigger
• Works well with variegated yarn in center petals, then matching colors for outer petal rows

You make a spiral flat base, and then work the petals on the surface of the base. Make the base tight, and you can use different yarn for the petals.
START
Ch 6; join into ring with slip st in 1st chain.
ROW 1 (BASE)
Work 12 sc in ring. Do NOT join with slip stitch. You’re going to work in a spiral.
ROW 2 (BASE)
FOR ALL BASE ROWS: WORK INTO BACK LOOPS only (you’ll work into the front loops for the petals).
In 1st sc, work 1 hdc and 1 dc.
In next sc,work 2 dc. Continue around working 2 dc in each stitch.
REMEMBER to work in back loops only.
Since you’re working in a spiral, it’s hard to know where your row ends. You can insert a stitch marker or look on back to see where your starting thread is.
ROW 3
Work 1 dc in stitch, then 2 dc together in next stitch. Continue working 1 dc then 2 dc together around.
ROW 4
Work 1 dc in stitch, 1 dc in stitch, then 2 dc together in next stitch. Continue working 1 dc + 1 dc + 2 dc together around.
ROW 5
Work 1 dc in stitch, 1 dc in stitch, 1 dc in stitch, then 2 dc together in next stitch. Continue working 1 dc + 1 dc + 1 dc + 2 dc together around.
YOU CAN STOP HERE or work one more round in base (round 7)
ROW 6
Work 1 dc in stitch, 1 dc in stitch, 1 dc in stitch, 1 dc in stitch, then 2 dc together in next stitch. Continue working 1 dc + 1 dc + 1 dc + 1 dc =2 dc together around.
To finish base, 2 stitches before you finish work 1 hdc and 1 sc (instead of dcs). Fasten off.
PETAL ROWS
You’ll be working all the petals on the surface of the base in the FRONT LOOPS.
Find the center and look for the beginning of the spiral – you’ll see the front loops form a spiral ridge. Find the first stitch in the spiral. Insert the hook through this front loop, and pull yarn through. Ch 1 and make 1 sc.
You’ll work the petal as follows:
· Now ch 4, then 1 tr in same stitch.
· In next front loop, make 2 tr.
· In next front loop, make 1 tr, ch 4, and 1 sc.
This makes a petal over 3 loops – ch4+1tr, 2 tr, 1tr+ch4+sc
Continue working this series of stitches in 3 loops ALL THE WAY AROUND the spiral loops in the base.
Work the petals till you’re happy with how they look – you may not need to make petals all the way around the base or you can work the petals all the way around.
Finish.
