Can be worked in single color, variegated yarn, or color changes in rows.
Instructions seem complicated, but it’s very easy to figure out

Color changes are not indicated in pattern below.
START
Ch 3, do not join (you'll use the first chain as your ring).
ROW 1
Work 10 dc in 1st chain (ring). Join with sl st (10). Pull end to close ring.
ROW 2
In any stitch, Ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in same st. *2 dc in each dc** around. Join to the ch3. (20 dc).
ROW 3 (CREATE HEXAGON)
In any stitch, ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in same st, Ch 2, 2 dc in same stitch, ch2. *Skip the next 3 sts, in next stitch 2dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same stitch, ch 2**. Continue * to ** around till you get 5 sides. Join with sl st to the ch 3. Make sure your stitches are correct and you have made 5 sides.
NOTE: Going forward, you'll be working clusters of stitches on top of each other, connected by chain stitches with sc stitches securing the chains. See picture to orient yourself - the directions seem a bit confusing but it's actually quite easy if you understand basically where you're placing your stitches.
