109-C Easy Simple Multi Leaf

Updated: Jul 5, 2022

  • Super easy and flexible pattern

  • You can easily adapt - make 3/4/5 leaves in small/medium/large sizes

In this pattern, you make each leaf one at a time but they're connected at the base. They'll be sort of floppy when you're making them, but don't worry - you'll fix this at the end.

Decide how many leaves and what sizes you want - and just choose from the instructions below. You may find it easier to follow the diagram at the bottom instead of the written instructions.

ROW 1

Small: Chain 8

Med: Chain 10

Large: Chain 12

ROW 2

All sizes: In 2nd ch from hook, sc in ch down to end. Ch 1 and turn to now work on ch side (you're still working on the front).

NOTE: We'll refer to this as the 'stem'

ROW 3

You'll be working a series of stitches up the 'stem' - sc, half dc, dc and trebles (these stitches vary for each size). For all sizes, you'll be working 4 (or 5) tr, making a 3-ch picot, then 4 (or 5) more tr to make the end of the pointy end of the leaf and then work back down the stem with reverse stitches (these vary a bit on the way back down).

NOTE: Don't worry if you're a little off with your stitches. You'll still be making a leaf shape.

Small: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr (this should take you down to end).

In ch at tip, work 4 tr, ch3 picot, 4 tr.

Now work back down: 3 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc.

Medium: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 4 dc, 2 tr (this should take you down to end).

In ch at tip, work 4 tr, ch3 picot, 4 tr.

Now work back down: 2 tr, 4 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc.

Large: 1 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 4 tr (this should take you down to end).

In ch at tip, work 4 tr, ch3 picot, 5 tr.

Now work back down: 4 tr, 3 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc.

NEXT LEAF

To start next leaf, just start to chain the stem (for whatever size you're making next).

The leaves will sort of just hang there - but don't worry as you'll be securing them at the end.

CONNECTING YOUR LEAVES

When done with your last leaf, flatten them all out and make sure they're in order and not twisted.

Make a slip stitch in the base of each leaf, in order, and make another slip st to center in base of leaves. Pull snugly to sort of connect them (we'll be doing additional sewing later to further secure them).

STEM

Now make a chain down for the stem - just make it as long as you want the stem, plus a few extra chains. In 2nd ch from hook, make 1 dc, then slip stitch back to the base of the leaf to complete the stem.

Break off yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

FINISHING

Using the tail, make some additional stitches on the back to connect & stabilize the leaves. You may want to make some stitches that go up a bit from the base of each leaf so they're not so floppy. But don't worry if they're still floppy - the leaf will be sewn securely when it's attached to the banner.

Weave in ends.
