Updated: Jul 5, 2022

MATERIALS:

  • fabric (1/4 yard should be enough for one flower)

  • thread, needle, button, ribbon (optional)

STEP 1

Cut 5 circles that are 8" in diameter

STEP 2

Fold each circle in quarters to create "pie piece" shapes.

STEP 3

With needle and thread that's doubled, sew a running stitch along the open edge of one quarter, taking 5 to 6 wide stitches through all 4 fabric layers. Leave a 'tail' of thread at the beginning.

STEP 4

Continue stitching from one fabric quarter to another, connecting all 5 pieces.

STEP 5

Gently pull both ends of thread together, like a drawstring. Tie the threads so the gathering is secure. You now have the petals of the flower formed.

STEP 6

Create a flower center by using a button or using fabric or yarn. Sew on securely.

STEP 7 (optional)

Attach an 8" piece of ribbon or thick yarn to the back which can be used to attach the flower to the banner.
