HEAD

Now work the following stitches over 4 stitches, which will create a shaped head.

In first stitch, work 2 hdc

In second stitch, work 2 dc, 2 tr, 2 dc

In third stitch, work 2 hdc

Slip stitch in the next sc

EDGING AND ANTENNAE

Make a round of sc around the whole bug.

When you get to the right side of the HEAD, crochet like this which will also make antennae:

Work 4 sc up the head stitches, then ch 4, work 3 sc down the chain (to form first antenna). Work 3 sc in the head, then ch 4, work 3 sc down the chain (for 2nd antenna). Slip st into next sc.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

WINGS (make 2)

You will work the wings in rounds around a chain, you wont turn, but crochet in circle direction.

  • Ch 7, 1 hdc in third stitch from hook, 3 x 2 dc in one stitch

  • 4 hdc in last chain stitch, work on in circle direction now

  • 3 x 2 dc in one stitch, 1 hdc, sl st to join.

  • Fasten off; leave extra long tail for sewing

FINISHING

Sew wings onto body (see photo for placement).

Take a left over of the other color and embroider the wings with points/dots. Sew through the wings when doing the details to further secure the wings to the body.

You can also embroider eyes and other details if you want.
