START
Ch 3; do NOT join into ring.
ROW 1 (CENTER)
In 1st ch (serves as ring), work 6 sc. Sl st to join. (6 sc)
ROW 2 (CENTER)
Ch 2 (to bring up yarn), 1 dc in same st. *2 dc in each stitch** around. Sl st in top of ch 2. (12 dc)
ROW 3 (FLOWER)
Start in any stitch, *1 sc, ch 4, skip 1 st** around. Join. (6 sc, 6 ch spaces)
ROW 4
Slip stitch into chain space. 5 sc in each chain space + 1 front post sc in stitch at base of each petal. Continue around. Join. (30 st)
ROW 5 (PETAL CENTER FILL IN BACKGROUND)
You’ll now be making the stitches that sit behind the flower petals (best in a different color so they show up). Stitches are worked into round 2 stitches that were skipped in round 3 - pull petals forward to work into the round 2 stitches.
Fold down petal and work 3 dc into 3 sc stitches + 3 ch. Continue around in each petal space. Join.
ROW 6 (BASE OF 2ND PETAL ROW)
In each set of 3 dc worked in prior row, work 2 dc in each dc (for 6 dc) + ch 3. Continue around. Join.
ROW 7 (POINTED TOP OF PETALS)
Join yarn into 3-ch space and ch 6. You’ll now work 6 treble crochet cluster into the 6 dc stitches in prior row as follows:
Work in the 5 gaps between the dc stitches and in 1st gap, make 1 tr and pull through 2 loops twice but don’t finish. Then in next gap work another tr but don’t finish. Continue working the unfinished trebles in all 5 gaps; you should have 6 loops on the hook, then yo and pull through all 6 loops.
Now ch 6 and join into next ch-3 loop with sc.
Continue making the 6 tr clusters + ch 6 + sc in chain space around. Join.
That finishes your second petal row.
ROW 8 (BASE FOR OUTER PETALS)
You’ll now work chains connected to the petals that will be the base for the outer petals. You’ll be making longer chains across teh top of the petals and smaller chains between the petals
Join yarn into the middle of one of the 6-chain to the right of one of the petals.
Ch 6 and join to next 6-chain with a sc (this chain should be going over the top of the petal).
Ch 4 and join to the next 6-chain with a sc (this chain should be going between the two petals).
Continue around. Join.
ROW 9 (OUTER PETALS)
Now work series of stitches to form the petals – more stitches in the ch-6 spaces and fewer stitches in the ch-4 spaces.
In ch-6 space: Work 2 dc, 2 hdc, 2 tr, 2 hdc, 2 dc (10 st)
In ch-4 space: Work 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 htr, 1 dc, 1 hdc (6 st)
This will make petals that are slightly arched – if you find there are too many stitches in the petals (they should lie fairly flat) than adjust the number of stitches you make in each petal.
ROW 10 (EDGING)
Work 1 sc along edge, making a 3-ch picot at the top of each petal and skip one sc at the base of each petal.
This should make a decorative edge that should lay flat
