Contrasting edging is very effective

START
Ch 8, join with slst on the first ch to form a base ring.
ROW 1 (BASE)
Ch 4 (counts as dc), work 23 dc in ring. Join with Sl st on 4th chain.
ROW 2 (1st ROW OF FOUNDATION CHAINS)
Ch 8, skip 2 dc and slip into 3rd dc; continue around. (8 ch-8 loops)
ROW 3 (2nd ROW OF FOUNDATION CHAINS
Slip stitch into next 3 chains to bring hook up to middle of ch-8 loop. Now ch 8 and slip to top of next ch-8 loop. Continue around. You now have a 2nd layer of 8 ch-8 loops.
You’re now going to create the petals into this looped framework. To explain, you work 10 dc across
the 8-ch loop from the round you just did, then work into both sides of the loop you created in the previous round – you’ll be turning the flower to the right as you work across these lower loops (with 8 dcs in each of these) and then circle back up. You then skip over across to the next top loop and continue. Picture to the right shows the top loop done, then loops into the lower two sections, and now continuing up to the next top loop (the blue yarn shows where you’re going next).

ROW 4 (PETALS)
In the top ch-8 loop, Ch 2 (to bring yarn up), then 10 dc into the loop.
Now rotate the flower to the right slightly, and you’ll be working into the chains that form the loop from the prior row. Work 8 dc into that section, then rotate again and work 8 dc into the next lower loop section. You will have made a circle with the stitches and you’re now back at the top.
Now find the next top ch-8 loop in the top row (as shown in picture) and you’ll be working 10 dc into that top loop.
Continue working around all the top and bottom loops, and sl st to finish.
R0W 5 (EDGING)
TIP: Do edging in contrasting yarn for best effect
Sc in top of each dc to create an edging but work a picot stitch at the top of each top petal (ch4, then sl st into 1st ch to make a little loop).
NOTE: You may need to adjust your tension a bit as you do the edging – the top petals should be fairly loose but you can snug up a bit on the spiral looped sections to make them a bit tighter.
Fasten off.
